Stripe publishes a list of industries it prohibits or puts under extra review. If your business is on it, or your Stripe account was closed, a dedicated merchant account from a high-risk specialist is usually a better fit.
Stripe's Prohibited and Restricted Businesses list splits industries into two groups. Some are prohibited outright, such as gambling, adult content, and CBD with THC above local limits. Others are restricted and need extra review before Stripe will support them, such as low-THC CBD, firearms and travel reservation services.
Stripe also lets most businesses sign up in minutes and reviews them as they process. That's convenient for low-risk sellers, but it means a business in a sensitive industry can be approved at signup and then have its account reviewed, paused or closed later.

Stripe can review accounts after signup. Common reasons for closure include operating in an industry on its prohibited or restricted list, a rise in chargebacks or refunds, or activity that doesn't match what was described at signup. Stripe's notice to you should give the specific reason.
We review every application individually, including businesses that another processor has declined or closed. Being upfront about your history gives your application its best chance.
